FAQ- laser eye surgery
- What is the difference between NeoLasik HD and NeoLasik?
NeoLASIK HD is laser surgery during which the protective corneal flap is created with femtosecond laser and the ZEISS MEL 80 healing excimer laser works on the basis of a DIGITAL MAP OF THE EYE created with aberrometer. Same as in the case of modern TV receivers and cameras, the abbreviation HD stands here for high definition. The aberrometer measures the optical system of the eye in several hundred points. It can capture and describe even minor irregularities of the optical system of the eye that are, however, very important for the quality of vision and that cannot be expressed by means of dioptric description of the disorder. In addition to the basic disorder, the laser removes these minor irregularities during the actual surgery as well. Names such as "Made-to-Measure Surgery", "Individualized LASIK", "Custom Treatment", "Wavefront Based Treatment", "Customized Treatment" etc. are also used to denote NeoLASIK HD.
NeoLASIK is laser surgery during which the protective corneal flap is created with femtosecond laser (femtolasik) but the healing excimer laser works on the basis of dioptric expression of the disorder. The dioptric expression of the disorder is determined on the basis of autorefractometer measurements and on the basis of the subsequent method of subjective refraction by means of examination glasses and optotypes.
- What are the advantages of femtosecond laser?
Zeiss VisuMax femtosecond laser can create the protective layer of the corneal tissue in a safe, reliable, quick and painless manner. This underpins the excellent results of NeoLASIK and NeoLASIK HD methods. Everything is painless and without using any sharp instruments.
During conventional LASIK-type surgery, the protective layer in the form of corneal flap is surgically created by means of mechanical microkeratome with a sharp vibrating blade. Although the surgery is extremely safe and reliable, the idea of a vibrating blade working on their eye is not acceptable for a number of patients.
- Can diopters return?
In part of short-sighted patients, the back of the eye continues to bulge out over life. This may cause another progression of the disorder in the years after the surgery.
The younger the patient and the more serious the disorder, the more probable progression is in the following years.

If you choose NeoLASIK HD or NeoLASIK surgery, you can be certain that should need additional laser surgery at any time in the future, the NeoVize Eye Clinic will provide it to you free of charge.
The guarantee is included in the ordinary price of NeoLASIK and NeoLASIK HD without any additional charges. - What is the process of laser surgery?
After all necessary administrative issues are dealt with at the reception desk, you will be seated in a comfortable seat where the eye will get totally insensitive with anaesthetic drops within approximately 10 minutes.
This is followed by an interview with the doctor and then by the actual surgery.
The surgery takes place in lying position on a comfortable couch.
You don´t need to worry about how you will manage not to blink or move your eye for the whole surgery.
Your eyelids will be gently held by a flexible device and eye movements will be compensated with a guidance system of the laser.
The whole procedure does not normally take more than 15 to 20 minutes. The actual operation of the laser takes on average 30 seconds. The real length depends on the number of diopters, whereas the minimum is cca 5 seconds and the maximum is about 1 minute.
After another 20 to 30 minutes spent in the comfortable seat, the doctor will check the condition of your eyes, give you eye drops and instruct you about what to do in the following hours.
On the day of the treatment, you will spend the total of 90 to 120 minutes at the clinic. - How long does the surgery take?
The actual operation of the laser takes on average 30 seconds. It is 5 seconds to 1 minute, depending on the number of diopters.

...Well, then it´s time to go home and start new life without glasses.
- What if I sneeze or cough?
If you feel like sneezing or coughing, please inform the doctor in a quiet voice and without moving your head. The surgery can be interrupted.
After you relieve yourself, it is possible to continue with the surgery.
- What if I move my eye during the surgery?
You don´t have to worry about moving your eye.
Modern lasers can adjust the operation to eye movements.
The position of the eye is evaluated with a special camera in microsecond intervals and the controlling system of the laser always moves the healing ray so that it hits the right place of the cornea.
If the eye gets wholly outside the operational area of the laser (for example, due to rapid movement of the head), the operation of the laser is discontinued. The doctor will adjust the position of your head and the procedure can go on.
- What if I blink during the surgery?
Don´t be afraid. You don´t need to worry about blinking. Your eyelids will be gently held by a flexible device during the surgery.
- Can my husband hold my hand during the surgery?
Yes, he can. If you wish, some of your relatives can be with you at the moment of surgery.
- My eyes water a lot. Will the surgery go wrong?
No, it won´t. We count with that. Increased production of tears during surgery is normal. Therefore, part of the laser is a system sucking excessive moisture from your eyes.
- Which is better, PRK or LASEK?
LASEK and epiLASEK are technical modifications of PRK surface laser surgery. Some years ago, doctors expected a lesser pain from these modifications than after PRK and more predictable results than after PRK.
However, healing and pain turned out to be longer and stronger after LASEK and epiLASEK than after PRK.
Do not confuse LASEK with LASIK - they are quite different methods. - What is the difference between femtosecond laser surgery and SBK?
SBK (Sub Bowman Keratomileusis) is a modification of the LASIK method during which a very thin cornea flap is created. Sometimes, SBK is also referred to as Thin Flap LASIK.
LASIK (and also SBK) is laser surgery during which the protective cornea lamella is created with mechanical keratome with a vibrating blade and the healing excimer laser works on the basis of dioptric expression of the disorder.
SBK and LASIK are methods suitable for patients demanding a reasonable compromise between the price and quality. Compared to PRK, Lasik and SBK provide stable results and fast healing after the surgery. The methods have been proven over ten years of medical practice. They are less suitable for patients with an extremely thin cornea, more serious disorders and increased demands on twilight and night vision.
During conventional LASIK and SBK-type surgery, the protective layer in the form of cornea lamella is surgically created with mechanical microkeratome with a sharp vibrating blade.
Although the surgery is extremely safe and reliable, the idea of a vibrating blade working on their eye is not acceptable for a number of patients. To these patients we recommend NeoLASIK and NeoLASIK HD surgery during which the protective layer in the form of cornea lamella is created with femtosecond laser, without using any sharp instruments. These types of surgery are chosen by 96% of our patients. Especially by those who prefer the highest quality, comfort and safety

- My ten-year-old daughter has 6 diopters. Is it possible to operate on her with laser? Can she make it?
Most children that are 10 or older can cope with the surgery without problems.
In the case of younger children, it is better if an anesthesiologist is present because s/he will prepare the kid for the surgery.
