Keratoconus and its treatment
- Can keratoconus be treated?
Keratoconus cannot be completely cured. We can provide efficient aid, though.
It is possible to flatten the improper and irregular curve of the cornea in keratonus and to stabilize it by implanting special plastic segments (kerarings). They are abbreviated as ICRS - Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments.
It is possible to strengthen and stabilize the corneal tissue by means of the CCL or CXL method - Corneal Cross Linking. - What is keratoconus?
Keratoconus is a cornea disease.
Slowly but permanently, the cornea is becoming more and more conical and thin.
This causes the progression of the short-sightedness and the occurrence of irregular astigmatism.
It is difficult to correct the condition with glasses, sometimes hard contact lenses can help.
In the last phase of the disease, the cornea becomes cloudy and its transparency is limited.
Previously, the only solution was corneal transplantation. - What is ICRS?
ICRS - Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments, sometimes also referred to as Keraring - is a method during which the improper and irregular curve of the cornea in keratoconus is flattened and stabilized by implanting special plastic segments.
- Do you implant “rings”, “segments”, “kerarings”?
Yes, we do. We use ICRS - Intrastromal Corneal Ring Segments to stabilize eye keratoconus.

CCL or Corneal Cross Linking (sometimes also CXL) is a method of strengthening the cornea.
By combining riboflavin and selective ultraviolet rays, we can create strengthening linkages among the individual molecules of the corneal tissue.
Thus the corneal tissue becomes stronger and more resistant.
It is particularly used in keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration. - Is it true that keratoconus can be treated with radiation therapy?
Yes, it is. But it is not ionizing radiation.
The cornea is exposed to the ultraviolet light that creates strengthening linkages among the individual molecules of the corneal tissue by means of substance called riboflavin.
Thus the corneal tissue becomes stronger and more resistant.
It is particularly used in keratoconus and pellucid marginal degeneration.

Ophthalmologist after PRELEX
Even though I've been involved with multifocal intraocular lenses for over 20 years, it is amazing what I've been able to learn in the past three weeks from my own experience with having multifocal lenses in my eyes. (PRELEX with Alcon Acrysof Restor Multifocal lens)
The decision to travel to NeoVize EyeClinc and to heve the laser surgery there was one of my best decisions in my life.
